I’m Carol Dixon, a licensed clinical therapist with a Master’s in Social Work from Howard University and 28 years of licensed experience.  My calling to serve, support, and care for others has spanned almost a lifetime, deepening as I worked with people from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and ages spanning the from infancy to elder, all facing challenges of life transitions marked by personal, social, or professional changes, as well as anxiety, depression, and trauma. 

 

Kintsugi Wellness Counseling was born from my personal growth in knowing myself, loving myself, and learning to express myself in being fully ME.  Unexpected life events happen to us all and can happen at any time. This can often times result in feeling like the rug has been pulled out from under leaving you lying flat on your back. You are feeling stuck and unable to figure out what next. This I have personally experienced with challenges in depression, suicidal thoughts, and self worth.  In gaining such a freedom to be Me as I was created to be, I wanted to support and walk with others in their journey of discovery. I find everyday a new opportunity to be available, listen, and support others.

 

Inspired by Kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending broken pottery using lacquer mixed with gold, silver or platinum. The repaired pottery is then viewed as much more beautiful and valuable. Mending the broken pottery honors the brokenness, and even more so the surviving the brokenness, and embraces its imperfections. The pottery is functional again and now stronger, more resilient, and showing off its beautiful scars. Our emotional scars don’t define us in a negative light, but instead add and create someone beautiful and resilient. Just as a fingerprint is one of a kind, so is every person – precious, unique, and worthy.
